Integrated multiple media
Different learning media have strengths and weaknesses. Rather than focusing
only on one element, such as a textbook, film, or software, Auf geht's!
employs three elements (multimedia, print, classroom-based tasks) to carry
this load equally. This allows the strengths of each medium to be emphasized,
enhancing student learning.
Current packages often favor the textbook, but we feel that students
need all sorts of media to learn effectively: multimedia, audio, imagery,
print materials, typing and writing opportunities, various person-to-person
interactions. Each of these communication 'media' has pros and cons and
one must have a coherent approach to integrating them for maximum effect.
In addition, well-integrated materials that are all assessed will receive
increased student attention, since for most students, anything that is
not assessed is (unfortunately for the teacher) irrelevant.
